PlayStation repair in Glasgow — PS5 to PS1, every fault covered
Every PlayStation generation, every fault
Three decades of Glasgow living rooms, student flats and family homes have had a PlayStation in them somewhere — the PS1 that first showed a generation of Glaswegians 3D worlds, the record-breaking PS2, the PS3 and PS4 that shaped online play, and the PS5 at the top of today’s hardware pile. PlayStation repair in Glasgow covers all of them here: every console and handheld Sony ever made, fixed at the St. Enoch Centre.
The bench sees PlayStation faults daily — PS4 HDMI ports gone silent, PS5 disc drive trouble, the PS3’s Yellow Light of Death, DualSense stick drift, PS4 Pros overheating in Southside bedrooms, PSP screens and Vita batteries. One-year warranty on every repair. And if you’d rather buy a pre-owned PlayStation or sell one gathering dust, that happens over this counter too — with two years of cover on every console sold.

PlayStation faults we repair in Glasgow
HDMI port repair
Light changes colour, fan spins, system clearly boots — yet the TV shows nothing. That’s the most frequent PlayStation fault on this bench, and in most cases the console’s HDMI port is to blame; on the PS4 especially, its board-soldered pins are a documented weak point. Ports are replaced across all PlayStation home consoles, usually the same day — and if another shop has blamed your motherboard on this evidence alone, get our second opinion first. One-year warranty.
Disc drive repair & replacement
Discs rejected at the slot, games unreadable after loading, grinding or clicking in operation, nothing ejecting — repairable across PS5, PS4, PS3 and PS2. A PS5 drive swap involves Sony’s pairing process; exactly what that means gets explained before work starts. One-year warranty.
Overheating & fan cleaning
Mid-session shutdowns, on-screen heat warnings, or a fan at full roar every evening point to a console packed with dust — often with thermal paste long past its best. PS4s and PS4 Pros running untouched since 2013 are the classic case. Full strip-down, complete heatsink and fan clean, fresh paste, calm and quiet again. One-year warranty.
Blue Light of Death — PS4
The indicator pulses blue, never turns white, and the console won’t finish booting. Behind it could be a failing hard drive, corrupted system software, RAM trouble or a logic board fault — diagnosed honestly across every PS4 variant before options are laid out. One-year warranty.
Yellow Light of Death — PS3
Sony’s counterpart to the Xbox Red Ring: years of thermal stress breaking down the solder joints beneath the GPU and CPU. Repaired with reflow and reball techniques where appropriate — always with a straight assessment of the odds first. One-year warranty.
Won’t turn on — power fault repair
Completely dead, alive for a second then off again, beeping before it dies, or frozen on the startup animation — possible culprits run from the power supply to system software to the logic board. A thorough diagnostic narrows it to the real one before anything is recommended. One-year warranty.
Controller repair — DualSense & DualShock
Stick drift plagues DualSense and DualShock 4 alike — movement registering untouched, aim gone vague. Affected stick components are repaired or replaced, along with dead face buttons, broken L2/R2 triggers, lost DualSense adaptive-trigger resistance, charging port failures, DualShock 4 headphone jack faults and snapped thumbstick caps. One-year warranty.
HDD & SSD replacement and upgrade
A PS4 crawling on its ageing mechanical drive, a PS5 out of room for the game library, or a failing disk throwing crashes — storage is replaced and upgraded across the range. PS4 HDD→SSD swaps transform load times; PS5 M.2 expansions add capacity; data migration and system software are handled as part of the job. One-year warranty.
USB port & disc eject faults
Broken USB ports on PS4 and PS5 — for pads, accessories or transfers — are replaced here. So is the maddening PS4 habit of spitting discs out mid-session, or refusing to eject at all: button and mechanism faults, sorted. One-year warranty.
Screen repair — PSP & Vita
Cracked, dead or damaged handheld displays are a staple of the retro side of the bench — quality replacement screens are sourced for all supported PSP and Vita models. One-year warranty.
Battery — PSP & Vita
Handheld cells fade hard with age; a PSP or Vita that can’t hold a meaningful charge goes back to being genuinely portable with a fresh battery. One-year warranty.
Software faults, error codes & reinstallation
Corrupted system software, stubborn error codes, PSN connection failures, database rebuild loops, update errors and consoles trapped in safe mode. Full reinstalls are done where needed, with data backup discussed first. One-year warranty.
The PS4 HDMI port — Glasgow’s most common PlayStation repair
This one earns its own section. Week in, week out, no PlayStation job lands here more often — and it follows a pattern worth recognising.
The PS4 powers on normally. Fan spinning, boot sounds, controller light bar glowing — and a completely blank television. The instinctive conclusion is catastrophic failure; the actual cause, most of the time, is a damaged HDMI port: pins bent or snapped, or the port worked loose at its solder points on the board.
Port replacements like this are routine here and typically finished the same day. Already been told elsewhere that it’s a motherboard fault? Come in for a second opinion before paying for a replacement console — more often than not, it’s just the port.
The PS3 Yellow Light of Death — what it is, what we can do
The YLoD has been cutting Glasgow gaming sessions short since the mid-2000s, and consoles their owners are genuinely fond of still arrive with it regularly. Underneath sits solder joint failure at the GPU and CPU — years of heat cycles gradually breaking the connections between chips and motherboard.
Two techniques address it. Reflowing applies controlled heat to soften and re-seat the existing solder; reballing goes further, lifting the affected chip entirely and rebuilding its solder ball array with new material before reinstalling. Either can bring a YLoD PS3 back to life — and how likely that is depends on the individual board and the extent of the damage. You’ll get a clear, honest read on the prospects before anything is agreed, including the occasions when we think a repair isn’t worth your money.
Buy & sell PlayStation consoles in Glasgow
Repairs are only half of it — pre-owned PlayStation consoles change hands at the St. Enoch Centre counter too.
Buy a pre-owned PlayStation
Two-year warranty
PS3, PS4 and PS5 consoles, each one tested and inspected by the technicians before it reaches the shelf — then backed for a full two years, considerably beyond anything a marketplace listing or private seller can offer. A fault inside that window means repair or replacement.
Sell your PlayStation
Fair offer, on the spot
A PS3, PS4 or PS5 you’ve finished with is worth something — bring it in and it gets assessed while you wait. Working consoles bought with or without controllers and accessories; walk in any time, or get in touch ahead to discuss.

Repairs that respect what the hardware is
Sony’s current hardware is genuinely sophisticated — repair it carelessly and you plant new problems where none existed. A YLoD fix demands real soldering skill and honest expectations; a PS4 HDMI replacement demands care around the neighbouring board components. This is work that rewards experience and method.
The Glasgow team works on PlayStation hardware across every generation, as part of an established, award-winning repair network spanning England and Scotland — a DualSense drift fix, a PS5 drive swap, a PS2 disc read error, all held to the same standard. Student in the West End, family in Pollokshields, professional in the centre: same quality, same pricing transparency, same one-year warranty.
