Console faults we fix every day
HDMI port repair
Console powers up, television shows nothing: the single most common hardware fault across the network, and nine times in ten the HDMI port is to blame. It is a known weak point on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, and turns up regularly on the Xbox One and Series X too. We replace HDMI ports across all major home consoles and restore a stable full-resolution connection, with a one-year warranty.
Disc drive repair and replacement
Drives that refuse discs, fail to read what you feed them, grind and click their way through a load, or won’t give the game back are repairable across PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo home consoles. One thing worth knowing: PS5 disc drive replacement involves Sony’s drive pairing process, which our team will walk you through before starting. One-year warranty applies.
Overheating and fan cleaning
Shutdowns mid-session, overheating warnings, or a fan that never drops below jet-engine: dust in the cooling system is nearly always the answer, often with dried thermal paste making it worse on older machines. The PS4, Xbox One and ageing Wii U are the usual suspects. We strip the unit down, clean the heatsink and fan assembly properly, renew the paste where needed and rebuild it — shutdowns gone, temperatures normal. Covered for one year.
Controller repair — stick drift and buttons
Stick drift is gaming’s most universal irritation: your character wandering off while your thumbs are nowhere near the stick. DualSense and DualShock 4 pads, Xbox Wireless Controllers and Nintendo Joy-Cons are all prone to it, and Joy-Con drift repair is among our most requested jobs. We repair or replace the affected stick components to restore accurate input, and also handle dead buttons, broken triggers, worn grips and failing controller charging ports. One-year warranty included.
Handheld screen repair
Cracked handheld displays are among the most frequent repairs across our stores. A Switch OLED that met a hard floor, a Steam Deck panel shattered in a bag, impact damage on a ROG Ally, or a Game Boy screen faded by the decades — we source quality replacement panels and fit them to a professional standard. See our screen repair service for displays on other devices. One-year warranty applies.
Handheld battery replacement
A portable console that only works tethered to the mains has rather lost the plot. We fit new batteries in the Nintendo Switch, Steam Deck, ROG Ally, MSI Claw, Legion Go, PSP, PS Vita and other handhelds, restoring proper away-from-the-socket playtime. More on cells and capacity on our battery replacement page. One-year warranty included.
Charging port repair
Handhelds and controllers that won’t charge, only charge at one precise cable angle, or keep dropping the connection have a worn or damaged port. We repair and replace charging ports on the Switch, Steam Deck, ROG Ally, MSI Claw, Legion Go and other handheld devices at every UK store, with a one-year warranty.
Power fault repair
No power at all, powers on then dies instantly, beeps and quits, or hangs forever on the startup screen — the causes range from a failed power supply to a logic board fault or corrupted system software. We diagnose thoroughly before advising, rather than guessing at parts. One-year warranty applies.
SSD and storage upgrades
Adding an M.2 SSD to a PS5, swapping a failing Xbox One hard drive, or reworking Switch storage — we handle storage replacements and upgrades across supported consoles at all our UK stores. One-year warranty applies.
Software faults and system diagnostics
Recurring error codes, PSN or Xbox Live connection trouble, PS4 database corruption, eShop errors, updates that never finish, and consoles stuck in safe mode or looping at boot are all regular work for us. Where a full system software reinstallation is needed we discuss data backup first. Covered for one year.
Retro console repair — not just the current generation
Plenty of repair shops stop at whatever launched most recently. We don’t. Retro console repair covers the Nintendo 64, Super Nintendo and original Game Boy right through to the PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Whether it is the console you grew up with or a piece of a retro setup you are assembling, bring it in and our technicians will assess it and tell you honestly what can be done.
Two faults dominate the era: the Xbox 360 Red Ring of Death and the PlayStation 3 Yellow Light of Death. Both are repairs our technicians take on, using GPU reflow and reball techniques where appropriate. As with everything else, you will get a straight assessment of the prospects and the options before any work starts.
Genuine and OEM parts for console repairs
Quality replacement parts go into every console repair at every store in the network. Where parts authenticity matters most to you — and it often does on current generation hardware like the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X — we can supply genuine and OEM-specification components that meet or exceed the manufacturer’s original specification. Whatever goes into your console, you will know about it before we fit it.
Console repair cost: agreed before we open anything
You approve a price first, always. That is how every console job runs across the network — no hidden charges, and nothing extra waiting for you at the counter. What it costs depends on the console, the model and the fault in front of us.

Repairs done to the standard the hardware deserves
Modern consoles — the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X especially — are dense pieces of engineering: custom silicon, high-speed storage, cooling architecture designed to the millimetre. Opening one properly takes the right tools, the right knowledge and real care on the way back together. A careless repair adds faults rather than removing them, and mishandled components can be damaged beyond recovery.
We have been doing this a long time: an award-winning repair company with branches through England and Scotland. Joy-Con drift fix, PS5 HDMI port replacement, Game Boy screen swap — every platform, every generation, the same professional standard at every store. We don’t rush, we don’t guess, and the one-year warranty on the finished job says what we think of the work.
