Xbox repair done properly, Series X to the original Xbox
Xbox repair across the UK, from cutting edge to classic
Microsoft’s console line runs from the razor-sharp present to genuine gaming history: the Series X with its custom NVMe SSD and 12-teraflop GPU, the compact Series S beside it, the long-serving Xbox One family, the Xbox 360 of Red Ring of Death infamy, and the 2001 original that started it all. CrC Repair® — trading as Pocket Geek — fixes them all, at all ten UK branches.
Day in, day out our technicians work through the Xbox fault book: HDMI ports, disc drives, overheating, controller stick drift, storage failures and software trouble, each repair carrying a one-year warranty. Pre-owned Xbox consoles are bought and sold at every branch too — two years of warranty on any console we sell. Xbox is one arm of our broader console repair service, alongside PlayStation repair and Nintendo.

Common Xbox faults and how we fix them
Xbox HDMI port repair
Power light on, fan turning, boot chime heard — and a TV showing nothing at all. On an Xbox that combination traces back to the console’s HDMI port in the overwhelming majority of cases, with the Xbox One and Series X especially prone as the port wears and takes knocks over the years. Replacement ports go into the full Xbox range at every branch, bringing the high-resolution connection back. One-year warranty.
Xbox disc drive repair
A drive that turns discs away, loses track of games after taking them, grinds and clicks as it spins, or won’t give a disc back — familiar trouble on the Xbox One and 360 families, and present on the disc-equipped Series X too. Drives are repaired or swapped across all supported Xbox models. One-year warranty.
Xbox 360 Red Ring of Death
Three flashing red segments on the power ring: gaming’s most famous hardware failure, and still walking through our doors. GPU solder joints broken down by years of heat cycles are the usual root, and board-level reflow and reball work addresses them — the dedicated section below tells the full story. One-year warranty.
Xbox overheating & fan cleaning
Cut-outs mid-game, heat warnings, a fan running flat out from the menu screen — dust choking the cooling system, compounded on older machines by thermal paste gone hard with age, and especially familiar on first-generation Xbox One consoles now a decade into service. Full strip-down, deep clean of heatsink and fan, fresh paste on the silicon, and the shutdowns stop. One-year warranty.
Xbox won’t turn on
No response to the button, a click and nothing more, power that vanishes seconds after arriving, or a console marooned on the startup animation. PSU failure, logic board faults, corrupted system software and dead internal components can each produce it — so a full diagnostic identifies the true root before any repair is proposed. One-year warranty.
Xbox controller repair & stick drift
Movement on screen while the stick sits untouched: drift wears into Xbox Wireless Controllers of every generation — Series X/S, One and 360 alike — and the worn stick components are repaired or replaced to make input precise again. The bench also handles sticky or unresponsive face buttons, bumpers and d-pads, tired LT/RT triggers, trigger rumble motor faults, controller charging ports (USB-C and micro USB), headphone jacks, battery compartment damage and snapped thumbstick caps. One-year warranty.
Xbox HDD & SSD replacement and upgrade
Load times stretching out, installations failing, games crashing, or a drive on its way to taking your data with it. Xbox One machines take an SSD in place of the original hard drive for a marked speed lift; Series X and Series S internal SSDs are replaceable when they fail; migration of data and system software is handled as part of the work. One-year warranty.
USB & expansion port repair
Dead USB ports leave controllers uncharged and accessories unrecognised; on Series X/S the storage expansion card slot can fail too. Both are repairable at every branch. One-year warranty.
Disc eject faults
Discs pushed out with nobody asking, an eject command that goes ignored, a slot that sticks or sits out of line — mechanism faults across the Xbox One and 360 families, all fixable. One-year warranty.
Audio faults
Silence over HDMI, sound that comes and goes, distortion through HDMI or optical output — the cause is usually the HDMI port, sometimes an audio configuration issue in software, occasionally a genuine hardware audio fault. Diagnosed and resolved across the range. One-year warranty.
Sync & connectivity faults
A controller that won’t pair, Wi-Fi the console can’t hold onto, NAT and network grief that never quite goes away. Whether the wireless module has failed or the configuration needs untangling, the cause gets found and the effective fix advised. One-year warranty.
Software faults & error codes
Corrupted system software, error codes that won’t clear, Xbox Live and Game Pass connection failures, update errors, startup loops. Resolved regularly across the range, with complete system reinstallation where called for — and backup talked through with you before that stage. One-year warranty.
The Xbox 360 Red Ring of Death, up close
Few hardware failures in consumer electronics are as thoroughly documented as the Red Ring of Death. At its height, failure rates on certain Xbox 360 production batches ran high enough that Microsoft extended its warranty programme specifically to cover it — a remarkable admission for a flagship product.
What actually happens: repeated heating and cooling cycles gradually crack the solder joints beneath the GPU, until the chip loses reliable contact with the rest of the system. Three red lights announce the resulting general hardware failure.
The remedy is board-level: reflow softens and re-seats the existing joints under controlled heat, while reball lifts the GPU off the board entirely, rebuilds its solder ball array from scratch and refits it. Which approach suits your console — and what outcome is realistic — is assessed and explained honestly before any work is agreed. RRoD repairs carry the one-year warranty.

Sell your Xbox to us
A working Xbox 360, One, Series S or Series X — controllers and accessories or not — earns a fair, no-nonsense offer at any branch. Drop in on a whim or ring ahead to talk numbers first.
Our approach to Xbox repair, new and old alike
A Series X is serious engineering — custom silicon, high-speed NVMe storage, cooling built to hold performance under hours of load — and working on one calls for the right tools, knowledge and respect for the design. The far end of the timeline is no less demanding in its own way: an RRoD repair is precision soldering work paired with honest expectations about what a fifteen-year-old board can give.
Both ends, and everything between, get the same treatment from us: an established, award-winning UK repair business applying one professional standard at every branch, from a five-minute drift fix to a full GPU reball. What that standard means in practice is on our high quality repairs page.
Xbox repair cost and pricing
The quote comes first, in plain figures, and gets your agreement before a screwdriver moves — no hidden charges, no surprises at the counter. Model and fault determine the price; a visit to any branch or the online booking tool produces a quick estimate.
